Here’s what happened when we ate the lot one afternoon…
You know me, I’m all for picky food so when Misteright was working from home one afternoon, we decided to skip our usual lunch and opted to eat the contents of the hamper a la carpet picnic. Instead of sandwiches, we dined on the delicious chilli crackers with the cheeses & had the pate on the chilli ones. I did buy a baguette as Misteright says you can’t have any kind of picky foods without one! The cheeses were both brilliant. The mature cheddar had a nice round flavour with a wickedly good tang. It’s not a good mature cheddar without a tangy after taste! Misteright preferred the blackberry, cranberry & apple cheese. He loves fruity cheeses and he said they went really well with both types of crackers and on the bread. Winner! The duck pate was nice, I’m not a huge fan of duck but Misteright said it was really delicious and he wished I had bought another baguette so he could have taken the pot back to his desk after his lunch break was over. It’s a hungry job getting through the afternoon, apparently! The cheese board chutney was lovely, it tasted great with both cheeses and had a really good texture. It was easy to spread well onto the crackers too.
The little pots of Bombay mix, chilli peanuts, the chocolate brazils and yogurt covered raisins were all amazing. The Boy polished off all of the Bombay mix, he really likes it and it’s a really healthy snack for a teenager so I didn’t mind. Misteright ate a few of the chocolate Brazil nuts but he made the mistake of leaving the pot on my desk and ooops, I ate them all. They were really nice, the chocolate was really good and the Brazil nuts were delicious. The yoghurt coated raisins were great too, the yoghurt coating was really thick and the raisins were massive. They didn’t last very long! The chilli peanuts were eaten by Misteright, he did let me have a couple but he didn’t make the mistake of leaving them on my desk again! He said they were really nice and not too spicy – he can be a bit of a girl when it comes to hot & spicy things but these were perfect for him.
The jam & marmalade were saved for croissants the following morning and they were both really good. I do love a good marmalade, especially whiskey marmalades. This one was really good quality, the whiskey flavour wasn’t too strong and the orange was just sharp enough but not overly tart. Misteright & The Boy both preferred the strawberry & champagne jam, they are suckers for strawberry jam. They would have liked the jar to have been slightly larger though!
I’m not a big wine drinker, in fact, I’m just not a big drinker – so I mixed the wine with lemonade. It was quite nice, as far as white wines go. I’m no expert and I’m more a cider girl than a wino but this had a pleasant flavour, it didn’t taste like vinegar and was still OK to drink after the first glass. If you’re into wine, then it’s probably a great one but for me – it was just an alright drink. Not unpleasant, just not my cup of tea. Yeah, it wasn’t a cup of tea. That was the only downfall!
