Chocolate coffee cake is great for an easy birthday cake which looks and tastes fantastic. It’s been a week for birthday cakes. Our neighbour had a birthday and a cake made by me at the weekend and this week, one of Misteright’s office staff has a birthday too. So with all these birthdays, I wanted to bake simple but delicious cakes that really don’t take much effort. You can’t beat a simple cake like that. I decorated this cake with a basic coffee & Nutella buttercream and topped that with a few chocolate decorations from the multi chocolate shaker by Cake Angels
If you don’t have a very steady hand then I recommend using fingers for the decoration but if you have a little more time, or a more steady hand then go for the plain buttercream option. Buttercream is great, if you make a mistake, you can just add a bit more and smooth it over without anyone knowing you messed it up a few times! You can also add a ribbon if you think the cake looks a bit plain, or if you are giving it as a gift. This cake was a gift so I had to wrap it up some how! If I had a disposable cake box, I probably would not have used a ribbon but at the time it was my best option.
Disclaimer – I received some complimentary cake decorations from Cake Angels. I used them in this recipe
