I treated myself to a waffle maker last week. I got the heart shaped waffle maker from gourmet gadgetry. I love it. It’s brought a whole new meaning to Sunday brunch. It means I can do savoury and sweet at the same time. Although sweet seems to be the most popular choice in our house. A firm favourite with The Boy and his friends are my plain waffles with chocolate slop. Chocolate slop is a very rich dipping sauce that I usually serve hot with ice cream. It’s like a thick and gloopy hot chocolate made with dark, milk and white chocolate and milk. You really can’t drink it though, it’s so sickly. I did try, but it wasn’t good. It was brought about by trying to explain to The Boy that you could make other things out of bars of chocolate.
You could use chocolate slop on a whole host of other sweet treats. It’s brilliant on ice cream, pancakes, donuts. Anything you think it would taste great with! If the slop sounds a little bit too sickly, you can swap the different chocolates for just one kind. So if you’re a milk chocolate lover, just use all milk chocolate instead of all three types. Chocolate slop also works with flavoured chocolates. The range from Green & Blacks is amazing and their butterscotch chocolate goes brilliantly in slop. It gives it a really nice flavour that compliments the waffles. Experiment with the chocolate that you use until you find one that’s perfect for you.
