Vanilla & Irish cream Valentines cake is a great foodie gift. It’s pretty cheap to make and takes less than an hour from start to finish! It’s a variation on a Victoria sponge which looks pretty amazing with very little effort! There’s nothing more special than your other half thinking you have spent all day creating a masterpiece, when in reality, it wasn’t that hard and it didn’t really take too long. If you don’t like the flavours then you can substitute them for others, a shot of champagne works well for a very subtle flavour in the icing and goes well with a coffee or citrus flavour cake.
I love Irish cream as a flavouring in cakes. I love it to drink as well. I don’t always use Bailey’s though. Aldi do a great alternative for a much cheaper price and you honestly can’t tell the difference in the taste. Irish cream and vanilla is an epic combination and once you add the chocolate hearts to the cake it makes each and every bite sublime. The flavour of the chocolate hearts works perfectly in this cake and gives it a lovely look once it’s completed. Misteright was so impressed with this cake on Valentines Day. You can eat it at any time of year though. You just don’t need the heart shape. It works well as a square cake, as a round cake and even cupcakes!
Disclaimer – I received some chocolate hearts from Divine Chocolate to be creative in the kitchen for Valentines Day, this is what I came up with
Aldi also provided a bottle of Ballycastle Irish Cream for this recipe.
